Bookmarks are great in keeping the page where you left off. It also helps keep the quality of the book pages. Here are two do-it-yourself bookmark ideas that are pretty neat and fairly easy to do:
Fabric and Elastic Band Bookmark
Elastic band – about 10-12 inches in length
Needle and thread – same color as your elastic band
Printed shape pattern cut-out
Begin by tracing the cut-out pattern onto the wrong side of the thermal and felt fabrics.
Sew the elastic band onto the felt fabric.
Place the right side up of the thermal fabric onto the felt fabric with the sewn elastic band on the outside.
Carefully iron the top of the two fabrics. Make sure that the thermal fabric is properly heated onto the felt fabric.
Cut a small piece of felt fabric and hot glue onto the side of the elastic band to hide the sewn portion.
You can now use the bookmark for your reading pleasure.
One tip to remember is that you can always customize the shape and design. Try finding thermal fabric designs that would make the bookmark a cute personalized gift.
Paper Clip It
Yes, you read it right. You can use paper clips as bookmarks, but it doesn’t have to be just the plain old (and boring) paper clip.
1/8-inch or 1/4-inch thick Ribbons – assortment of colors and designs
Paper clips – we recommend using the jumbo paper clip
Sharp pair of scissors
Cut the ribbons to your desired length using a sharp pair of scissors.
Attach 2-3 pieces of the ribbons to one end of the paper clip. You get to choose whether you want the same or an assortment of ribbon colors and designs per paper clip.
Another idea would be to tie the ribbon in a bow onto one end of the paper clip.
All done! Wasn’t that fairly easy?
